American-Brazilian Oboist and Composer

Harold Emert is an American-Brazilian (naturalized) oboist, composer based in Rio de Janeiro since 1973 when he joined the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra as first oboist. 

Born in New York City Emert was educated at the famous High School of Music and Art, Queens College and Manhattan School of Music, where he received his Masters of Music, studying with the late Albert Goltzer, first oboist of the NY Philharmonic.

Before departing his native city for musical opportunities abroad, Emert soloed with the American Symphony with Maestro Leopold Stokowski, the Radio City Music Hall and Opera orchestra of New York  directed by Eve Queler.

He subsequently worked with the Radio orchestras of Johannesburg (South Africa) and Saarbrucken (Germany) as well as the Israel Phil under Zubin Mehta on their tour of European Festivals.

After studies with the renowned Swiss oboist and conductor Heinz Holliger at the Hochschule fur Musik in Freiburg, Germany, where he earned his artist diploma, Emert joined the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra in Rio de Janeiro.

As first oboist, he toured Europe and the United States during his twenty-three seasons with the Brazilian Symphony.He was also first oboist with Rio’s Municipal Orchestra as well as Brazil’s National Orchestra.

As a recitalist with piano Emert has toured the world from Latin America to Australia, New Zealand, Haiti, Tahiti , Hong Kong and Brunei. He has recorded six solo CDs. 

Emert performed with Brazilian pianist Aleida Schweitzer and Richard Meek, American bassoonist, at the Petit Palais Rothschild (Brazilian Embassy) in Vienna, on 29 September 2022 a program with works by Sigismund Neukomm, an Austrian composer who resided in Rio de Janeiro (1815-1821) and Harold´s own composition “Corner Waltz.”

Oboísta e compositor norte americano-brasileiro (naturalizado) Harold Emert já trabalhou nas orquestras mais importantes do Rio de Janeiro, como a Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira, O Teatro Municipal do Rio  e a Orquestra Sinfônica Nacional. Nos EUA, tocou com o maestro Leopold Stokowski e a American Symphony, no Brasil com os Maestros Kurt Masur, Lorin Maazel, e as solistas Nelson Freira (piano), Rostropovich (cello) Izaak Perlman (violino), e com os três tenores (Pavarotti, Careras e Domingo). Ele já apresentou como solista  na Europa, Austrália, Nova Zelândia, EUA, Índia e muitos outros países. Era integrante do Israel Philharmonic com Maestro Zubin Mehta e as  Orquestras do Rádio  de Saarbrucken e Johanesburgo. Também já participou de gravações de Milton Nascimento, Ed Motta, Marcelo D2 Olivia Hime, Maria Lucia Godoy e outras estrelas da música  brasileira.

Emert tocou com a pianista brasileira Aleida Schweitzer e Richard Meek, fagotista americano, no Petit Palais Rothschild (Embaixada do Brasil) em Viena, em 29 de setembro de 2022 um programa com obras de Sigismund Neukomm, compositor austríaco que residia no Rio de Janeiro (1815- 1821) e a composição do próprio Harold “Corner Waltz”.
